Our story and purpose

A non-political, scientific association working for the conservation and improvement of the Nili-Ravi buffalo and the welfare of the breeders who raise it.

History of the association

Built by breeders, backed by science

The Buffalo Breeders Association Punjab, Pakistan (BBAP) was established in 2009 to promote buffalo breeding, genetic improvement, and the socio-economic welfare of buffalo farmers throughout Punjab. It was formally registered in 2011 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, at Kasur.

It was founded to bring together buffalo breeders, livestock experts, researchers and dairy farmers to promote the conservation, improvement and sustainable development of Pakistan's indigenous buffalo breeds, particularly the world-renowned Nili-Ravi buffalo.

The Punjab Breeding Act, 2014 provided a legal framework for livestock breeding, animal identification, breed registration and genetic improvement, strengthening organised breeding programs and the Association's objectives.
